What to know before you sign up

WeightWatchers Med+ is a membership around a prescription. The membership is $25 the first month with a 12-month or 6-month plan, then $74 a month on the 12-month plan or $84 on the 6-month plan, auto-renewing for another full term unless canceled, and the page says "GLP-1 cost not included" twice. What you get for it is the clinician visit, an insurance coordinator who "will make the calls" and manages pre-authorizations and refills, the GLP-1 Success Program and the workshops. The drug is billed on top: through your insurance, or at the self-pay prices the page prints per product, which are the manufacturers' own cash prices dispensed by LillyDirect for Zepbound and Foundayo and by CenterWell Pharmacy for Wegovy and Ozempic. Each price tile's offer terms say the starting-dose price rises at higher doses (Foundayo and the Wegovy and Ozempic pills to $299, Zepbound to $449), and the Novo offers of $199 for the first two pen fills end December 31, 2026, and the Ozempic offer excludes patients enrolled in government-funded programs with coverage for it.

Two things distinguish WW from the compounded sellers and from the manufacturers. It prescribes only FDA-approved medication, so the prescription will be for an FDA-approved product, not a compounded one. And the prescribing is done by affiliated medical groups the clinic terms list by name, including Weekend Health of Texas, P.A. and WW Clinic, PLLC. Whether your visit is a video call depends on your state and age; the terms require a "synchronous consultation" only in some states.

The record holds two FTC actions against the parent company: a 1997 consent order on weight-loss advertising claims and a 2022 stipulated order on children's data in the Kurbo app. Neither concerns the clinic.

Has the FTC acted against WeightWatchers?
