About VitalDecades

A primary-source reference on midlife and older-adult health decisions: screenings, the big lifestyle levers, and honest checks on popular health claims. Educational information, not medical advice.

What this is

VitalDecades is a plain-language, primary-source health reference for adults roughly 40 to 75: what current official guidelines and published evidence actually say about screenings, the big lifestyle levers, common midlife conditions, and popular health claims. It is not a clinic, not a telehealth service, and not a substitute for professional care. It does not diagnose anything, does not prescribe or recommend a dose for you, and does not replace a conversation with your own clinician.

Every guideline, statistic, and claim verdict on this site links to the primary source it came from: the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, the CDC, the NIH and its institutes, the FDA, ACIP, Cochrane, or the underlying peer-reviewed trial. If we cannot verify a fact against a source like that, we do not publish it padded out with filler. We gate the page instead.

How we try to earn trust

Three things have to be true at once for a page here to be worth reading, and we say plainly when one of them is not yet true rather than pretend otherwise.

  • A named, credentialed reviewer. Medical content is meant to be checked by a real clinician before it carries a "reviewed by" byline. See the reviewer page for exactly where that stands right now.
  • Rigorous primary sourcing. Claims trace back to the guideline or trial that actually supports them, with a last-verified date, not to a summary of a summary. See methodology and how we review for the specifics.
  • Explicit not-advice framing. Every content page states clearly that it is educational information, not medical advice, and that decisions about your health belong with your own clinician.

Who runs it

VitalDecades is written and edited by Mario Bailey. He is not a physician; his background is outside clinical medicine. He builds this reference by reading the primary sources directly and stating plainly what they do and do not support. Read his full bio, and see the editorial policy for how pages get written, sourced, and corrected.

How it makes money

This site is advertising-supported, though ads are not yet live. Ads never influence what the evidence says, which screening we describe, or how we grade a claim. No advertiser, sponsor, or partner can pay to have a screening recommended, a claim graded more favorably, or a page featured or omitted. When ads run, they are clearly separated from editorial content. See privacy for what advertising cookies would collect once ads are live, and editorial policy for the full ad-independence and sourcing commitments.
